During Mushuk Nina we celebrated the Andean New year as a community. The celebration included the traditional ceremony, accompanied by live music performances by community members and dance showcases by the youth.

During Wandiay we honor the lives of our loved ones who have passed by gathering as a community to bake bread and serve it as offerings. The celebration entailed a live musical performance by members of the community.

Official KCC Logo Launch
April 17, 2023
The Kichwa Community of Chicago launched the official logo design to the community members and the Ecuadorian Consulate. This official logo is now used for all communications, programming, advertising, and recognition that KCC conducts or undergoes.
Mushuk Nina 2024

We celebrate the Andean New Year with our traditional Mushuk Nina event. We look to energize the new year with a symbolic renewal of energy via a traditional ceremony. The celebration also included live musical performances, dance groups, and a communal meal.

The organization’s first official event, Koya Raymi, is a festival that symbolizes the beginning of life and the importance of fertility of the earth. This festival honors women and mother earth for their ability to create life.

During Koya Raymi we celebrated the fertility of the Pachamama (Mother Earth) through a ritualistic ceremony with one of our community leaders followed by a showcase of traditional Kichwa clothing for both men and women throughout the decades by children members of the community.
New Board Welcome Picnic

Our first community gathering under new leadership was a picnic where members came together to cook and eat before a long anticipated summer break. We introduced the new board members and thanked the prior board for their efforts.

During Koya Raymi we celebrated the fertility of the Pachamama (Mother Earth) through a ritualistic ceremony with one of our community leaders followed by a presentation by our younger members, children’s activity, and live music from our Peruvian friends.
Wandiay 2024

In honor of our loved ones who have passed, we celebrate their lives with our Wandiay event. Here we gather communally to make bread and present our baking as offerings to our ancestors.
Mushuk Nina 2025

We celebrated Mushuk Nina to welcome the Andean New Year. In our two part event, we first received a presentation about what Sumak Kawsay means and represents. The second part of the event included the traditional new fire ceremony, musical performances, and dance performances by members of the community.
